Disney Epic Mickey Takes On Wasteland

The new Disney Epic Mickey is an action adventure game for the Wii wherein Mickey Mouse goes on an epic journey of creativity and discovery through Wasteland, an alternate world made up of Disney's forgotten creative efforts. Here he is given the ability to use paint and paint thinner to change Wasteland. Players have the ability to shape how the story unfolds by what Mickey uses the paint and paint thinner on. This concept is tagged "Playstyle Matters", which is a new gameplay Disney introduces in this game, where players creatively tackle various challenges to explore all the possibilities of storylines, but also reap the consequences of those chosen actions. It's an interesting concept.

I loved the way they incorporated Disneyland in almost every aspect! I saw the people movers, haunted mansion just to name a few...you will enjoy collecting all the secret stuff that can be found throughout the game too!

I found the controls really easy to handle and the ability to center the camera with the c button smooth and simple and using the 1 button to enter a first person perspective allowed for very easy exploration. The use of paint and thinner allows for game customization and leads to a lot of fun choices as you go along. The 2D side scrolling levels between main levels are fun and well designed and allow for a little break from searching for all the wonderful goodies hidden around each level.

You can definitely tell that the creators of this game really care about Mickey history (lots of gameplay goodies for those that are fans of the old 1930's Mickey cartoons). The story is great, and it really is a lot of fun. Graphics and music are great for a Wii game and the quests are pretty challenging.

There is a lot of history to be had with this game, if you're an avid Disney fan this is a must buy. I believe this game would be a good time for just about any age group, and any gamer just looking for a fun game to play. There's a little something for everyone.

The controls are pretty fluid and intuitive for the most part, and very easy to pick up from the start. The graphics are amazing by Wii standards, you really feel as if you're in the cartoon itself. The characters are engaging and the story is well thought out and entertaining. As stated above the history is rich and actually pretty interesting.

Classic Disney buffs will probably get a kick out of this game, which sees Mickey going into an alternate world where all the forgotten Disney characters reside, like Horace Horsecollar, Clarabelle Cow, as well as various temporary-incarnations of Pete and numerous others, all led by Oswald The Lucky Rabbit, the original creation of Walt Disney, whose up-and-coming fame was shafted by Mickey Mouse due to legal reasons so many years ago. Having accidentally caused a horrible disaster in the world years prior, Mickey is pulled into the world, where he has to escape while making grand choices that will effect the now devastated plane, now known as "The Wasteland".

Choices come heavily into play, as you have access to two different types of materials to affect the world around you: Paint, and Paint Thinner. The former won't always have immediate reward, but will generally benefit you in the long run, and the latter has practically immediate payoff but with often huge consequences, though both are often used in certain puzzles one way or the other. The heavy choices you make are given a surface-level simplicity that most kids won't have too much trouble understanding, but the amount of difference it has on the world and how its' characters treat you can be quite astounding.

Another two items in the package that seriously impress are the visual aesthetics of the game, and the wonderful soundtrack within. The world is essentially a macabre version of Disneyland, all its' notable locales twisted beyond recognition at some point, like a barren Main Street or a run-down version of Toontown, and a few new locales, like a mountain made almost entirely of old Mickey memorabilia. All I can say about the orchestrated soundtrack is that it's about on the same level as a great Disney film, and I hope it will be released in a separate package.

Epic Mickey has an astounding amount of love crafted into it's storyline for all things Disney, making it a fantastic production I think anyone would enjoy; and who knows? Maybe next time....Epic Donald, or Epic Goofy!
